Cliff Walk, Newport
At Newport, Rhode Island, gleaming Gilded Age mansions sit atop craggy cliffs overlooking a dark roiling ocean. In between the mansions' opulent magnificence and the fury of the crashing waves lies a pleasant 3.5 mile walk. The flower-lined Cliff Walk was once a path for the Gilded Age rich who owned summer "cottages" here. Now, more than a century after, the ornate mansions still remain in their full glory, and visitors can tour the luxurious rooms and grounds. Today, the Cliff Walk is a National Recreation Trail, open for all to walk in the footsteps of Gilded Age millionaires.
Easton Beach
A seaside hobbit hole (for Gilded Age hobbits, of course!)
