Metropolitan Museum of Art

Often heralded as one of the greatest museums in the world, New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art holds an astounding collection of art. At an incredible 2 million square feet, it has the largest floor area of any museum in the world. Visitors can wander through the grand Egyptian Temple of Dendur, beautifully detailed French and American period rooms, and halls lined with white marble Greek and Roman statues. On the walls of other exhibits hang paintings by world-famous artists such as Monet, Degas, Van Gogh, Cassatt, and Seurat. To get lost amid the Metropolitan Museum's art collections is to get lost in a maze where each new room reveals a seemingly endless collection of famous and diverse art.
