Rockport
Few places are as timeless as coastal Rockport on Cape Ann, Massachusetts. Many come to see the famous Motif #1, the most painted building in the world. Though photographs and artwork of it may be unoriginal, somehow the tranquil scene never tires. Nearby sits the curiously named Bearskin Neck. Despite the tourists, Bearskin Neck has maintained its quirky soul. Some individual souvenirs and t-shirts sold here may be tacky, but they sit in shops that are distinctly authentic. The art galleries may share common subjects, but somehow, it remains evident that these works were made by people of Rockport, people who best understand the coastal Massachusetts life. Families hover around small ice cream shops, and Rockport locals relax in front of their houses. Sailboats on the Back Harbor float in the heather blue haze where the sea meets the sky. Watch the ocean pulsate in waves lapping the crescent shaped Front Beach. It’s timeless. There’s no end to that horizon, and there’s no end to sweet summers here in Rockport.
