Mystic

The Town of Mystic

The thriving town of Mystic is a classic coastal Connecticut village with a modern touch. Charming souvenir shops and ice cream parlors bask in the fresh breezes blowing off the winding Mystic River and nearby ocean. The most famous restaurant of them all is a little pizza place known as Mystic Pizza. It was this pizzeria that had inspired screenwriter Amy Holden Jones to write the beloved movie Mystic Pizza. Even though most of the movie had not been filmed here but instead in nearby Stonington, Mystic Pizza has become a bit of a mecca for fans of the movie. Everyone wants to try their own “slice of heaven” and relive some of the movie magic.

Olde Mistick Village

Though its name makes it seem like a historical site, Olde Mistick Village is actually an open air shopping mall built in a picturesque 1720 colonial village style. It was originally modeled after Peddler's Village in Pennsylvania but has far surpassed the original design in scale. At times, the details are managed to perfection, making the scenes seem contrived and as if they had been borrowed from a Thomas Kincaid painting. Despite this, Olde Mistick VIllage is an interesting place to visit and there are several cute shops to explore. One store sells “wee forest folk,” absolutely adorable mouse miniatures. Nearby sits a wizarding and witchcraft shop, The Cloak and Wand, which creates an aura akin to that of Diagon Alley from Harry Potter. At Olde Mistick Village, there is something for every shopper and window-shopper.
